Quartz Countertops: A Great Choice for Your Kitchen

Quartz Countertops: A Great Choice for Your Kitchen
Quartz is a natural stone material that’s all the rage for homeowners right now. This hot kitchen trend is quickly overtaking granite as the countertop material of choice. In fact, the National Kitchen and Bath Association says manufactured quartz is now the leading countertop material thanks to its low maintenance, stain resistance and increased durability. Because countertops set the tone for your whole kitchen, it’s important to make the right choice when it comes to your eating and prepping areas. Let’s take a more in-depth look at quartz’s advantages over other stone materials.

Style

While granite has a traditional appeal, quartz has a cleaner, more contemporary look that goes great with modern kitchens, says The Washington Post. Not only do you have a wide range of colors to choose from, you also have a variety of finishes to choose from that can complement your kitchen, from smooth and shiny finishes to a suede texture that’s softer or even a volcano texture featuring a slightly pitted, rustic look, points out Elle Decor.

Material

Quartz is manufactured from one of the hardest minerals on Earth, which is why it’s chosen for its durability. These countertops are made mostly of ground quartz, along with pigments and polyester resins as a binder, according to This Old House. Quartz is available in a wide spectrum of colors, such as reds, greens, browns, blacks and creams, with veining options to resemble marble. Unlike the mined natural-stone slabs, quartz is factory engineered to be stain and scratch resistant as well as nonporous. It also features a more consistent color, texture and pattern than natural stones.

Maintenance

Because quartz is non-porous, it doesn’t have to be sealed regularly like granite does. The non-porous nature of this material also makes cleaning countertops much easier, thus preventing buildup of bacteria. Quartz is also stain-resistant, unlike marble and granite, so you don’t have to worry about spilling and wiping up immediately. Also, unlike other types of stone countertops, quartz resists corrosion from cooking oils, liquids and most household cleaning products, says HGTV.

If you’re thinking about remodeling your kitchen, quartz is the modern way to go, with a variety of perks that go along with this material. Call us today for more advice and to book your design consultation.
